Penobscot Bay Press publishes The Weekly Packet, Island Ad-Vantages and Castine Patriot. PBP is an independently owned community information services company serving 10 towns on the Maine coast.
Penobscot Bay Press is based in Stonington, with about 20 full-time and part-time employees. In addition to our main office in Stonington, which is the production and administrative facility, we operate offices in Castine and Blue Hill, the latter of which is the publications’ mailing center.
Our periodical publications center on 10 towns on the Maine coast, including three island towns. The total population of the towns served is about 11,000 year-round residents, with that number more than doubling in the summer tourist and visitor season. Island Ad-Vantages, based in Stonington, traces its history through weekly papers published on Deer Isle from 1882. The Weekly Packet, Blue Hill, was founded in 1960, and the Castine Patriot, Castine, in 1980. Nathaniel Barrows purchased the Ad-Vantages in 1968, The Packet in 1981, and the Patriot in 1990.
